Welcome! I’m grateful you found this isolated oasis buried deep in the depths of the internet.. 😀
I wanted to give you a little bit of context on what you can expect to read at The Data Hackr, why you should trust me, and what’s in it for you.
Onwards…
A Bit About Me
I’m just a guy who loves to build things that help people (including myself) make better decisions, live more freely, and generally enjoy what life has to offer. I love digging in on tough problems and have an issue accepting the status quo as the only option. I constantly think, “There must be a better way”. So… I end up spending a lot of time (probably way too much time) building solutions to problems I have or I see others have.
As an aerospace engineer turned data scientist turned startup founder, the tools that I’ve picked up along the way make me dangerous when I’ve got solid data and even an ounce of intuition in hand. So naturally, most of the things that I build lean heavily on data. If you’re interested, you can read the long version of my story here.
What The Data Hackr is All About
I guess it’s pretty straightforward. I seek out problems and data in areas that I find interesting and see what I can do to create something new, remarkable, and/or cool. Then I write about the stuff that makes the cut and the other stuff goes into cold storage.
Some areas that I find interesting include investing, sports, economics, music, personal finance, travel, entrepreneurship, and more. That’s not to say that I won’t write about anything else, but you’ll notice more of my projects will focus on these topics.
While most of the things that I write about could be considered educational, I make a point of including content that is specifically focused on education.
Educational Content
I feel very fortunate to be where I am today, so writing educational content gives me an opportunity to share my expertise, thoughts, and recommendations with the hope that it helps at least a few others move forward in their career.
Most of these posts are centered around three main topics. First, I try to help people just getting into machine learning (ML) and data science get comfortable with the basics. I also mix in more advanced ML concepts that experts might be interested in reading about. Second, I offer the best advice I can for those who are interested in becoming a data scientist. And finally, I write about the benefits (and pitfalls) of freelance data science consulting, how to make the leap, and what to expect.
Each of these topics cater to folks at different points on their journey in data science. My hope is to open people’s eyes to what it’s like to work in the field, the opportunities it offers, and what it takes to do it, warts and all.
Final Thoughts
Overall, my goal is to have fun with The Data Hackr. If I’m not succeeding in that, then I’m not sure if there is any point in continuing. Aside from that, I want to create content that inspires people to think differently about the world around them and reveals the possibilities that data and human insight together can unlock.
Put simply, at The Data Hackr I explore our wonderful world of data. So let’s dive in and see what we can find!
Welcome to the blog – glad to have you!
